Feb 28, 2024

I think there’s a big mis-conception that you have to be on Social Media as an artist and that that is the only way to successfully market yourself and sell your art.

In this blog (and video) I’m sharing How To Market Your Art Business Without Social Media - so get excited as I reveal 10 ways you can more effectively market and sell your art products and art services.

And right at the end I have a Bonus 11th way to market your art business without social media too...

Right let’s dive into those 10 Ways To Market Your Art Business Without Social Media:

(Watch the video to get all the details...)

 1: Email Marketing

  • For me this is the number one way you can market your art business without social media.
  • Grow a list of interested art lovers
  • Build trust and connection weekly
  • And then make regular offers to this list
  • Plus segment it, so you can speak directly to different groups of your list.
  • Example - just customers.

2: SEO

  • I think we are often put off by something we don’t understand
  • And then disregard it all together
  • It’s too hard…etc
  • But in fact SEO (search engine optimization) can absolutely work for you.
  • And the best bit - it’s FREE
  • You can use this for your own website, third party sites, Etsy, Pinterest, YouTube, amazon etc

 3: Google/other Ads

  • If you have a marketing budget then ads can be a brilliant source of ‘traffic’.
  • Sending your audience straight to your listings.
  • You can use either Google Ads, (with a 3 billion searches per minute) or Facebook//Instagram Ads (with a 3 billion monthly users).
  • Both now have similar-ish capabilities.
  • You can dramatically scale your art business with Ads.
  • So probably best used once you are up, running and making sales.

 4: PR (Public Relations)

  • Public Relations, otherwise known as PR is a great way to reach a larger audience quickly.
  • Newspapers and magazines
  • Radio and TV
  • These are brilliant if you have a great story about your collection etc.

5: Referrals

  • Sometimes we forget about the most obvious way to make sales.
  • Asking your customers to refer you to their friends and family.
  • Create Referral cards and don’t forget to come up with a thank you system.
  • Whether that’s discount on future purchases
  • Of a gift basket…

 6: Networking

  • Business is about people
  • So it makes sense to grow the network of people who know about what you offer
  • This is way business networking can be so powerful
  • Attend events with other business owners and work on helping each other out.
  • Remember it’s not about the people you meet there, it’s about who they know.

 7: Events

  • If you are a service-based art business then using events as your marketing strategy can work really well
  • And in some cases for products too.
  • Often craft/art markets can be great places to get your product seen, feedback and of course build your mailing list.
  • For workshop/class artists, offering free events first is the perfect way to build your workshop business.
  • The same of course if you are doing online courses.

 8: YouTube

  • This platform is brilliant too for many reasons.
  • The first of which is that it’s a search engine.
  • Which means people are already here looking for things.
  • Whether that’s how to paint or how to build an art business lol
  • By creating high value videos you have the opportunity to reach a wide audience, build your mailing list and even make sales.
  • You also use SEO to help your videos stand out.

9: Blogging

  • If you prefer writing to making videos, then blogging could be your thing.
  • Create a weekly blog on different topics in your niche that your audience are interested in
  • Publish to your website
  • And make sure you have a clear C2A for them to join your mailing list.
  • You’ll also be using SEO in this strategy too.

 10: Joint Ventures

  • One of the most powerful and over-looked strategies
  • Working with another business, who has the same target audience, but offers something different.
  • It needs to be a reciprocal arrangement
  • Think art store and art workshop provider
  • Or interior designer…

Bonus: Pinterest/Ads

  • Right, as promised, here's the bonus.
  • It’s also a massive search engine
  • And relies on SEO!
  • You can create multiple pins to send traffic directly to your listings.

Now, some of these strategies definitely need some practice and you might even need to learn how to use them in the first place...

But I think you’ll agree, they are a clear different option to Social Media.
